Prof. Dr. Gölge Seferoğlu

Gölge Seferoğlu is a professor in English Language Teaching (ELT) at Middle East Technical University. She received her B.A. in English teaching from Boğaziçi University and she holds MA, EdM, and EdD degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University in the fields of TESOL and Applied Linguistics (1992-1997). Currently, she is the former Dean of Faculty of Education.

Gölge Seferoğlu served widely as a consultant to many language teacher education projects and programs in Turkey contributing to the Turkish education system at large. She has worked in various national projects including the development of the national English curriculum for high schools and structuring the national English teacher competences framework.  She published various research articles nationally and internationally that deal with teaching and learning English and use of technology in language learning. Her research interests include technology enhanced language learning, pre- and in-service teacher education, and teaching speaking and pronunciation.

Dr. Çiğdem Tirkeş

Çiğdem Tirkeş (PhD) is the director of English Preparatory School, Kadir Has University. Çiğdem Tirkeş has been in ELT profession since 1993, working as an EFL instructor, textbook writer, EAP programme coordinator, department manager and school director. She received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in ELT from Middle East Technical University. She also holds an Executive MBA degree received from Istanbul Technical University and a doctorate in Marketing and Production Management received from Marmara University. She completed a trainer training certificate programme offered by the British Council, Ankara. She has been involved in training and teacher education for many years. Her major areas of interest in the field of ELT are teacher training and development and ELT management.

Dr. Taner Yapar

Taner Yapar was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1976. He came to Turkey in 1985 with his family. In 1998, he received his B.A. from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Department of English Translation and Interpretation. In 2003 he received his M.S. in Educational Measurement and Evaluation from Middle East Technical University, Ankara. He received his PhD degree from Hacettepe University in Educational Measurement and Evaluation.

Taner Yapar worked at the English Preparatory School of Başkent University, Ankara between 1998 and 2005. There he undertook various responsibilities like teaching general English and ESP, and preparing tests and materials. He worked as the Academic Coordinator of the Department of Foreign Languages at TOBB University of Economics (TOBB ETU), Ankara between 2005-2010. He acted as the responsible person for the curriculum and test development processes. Since 2010 he has been the Director of the Department of Foreign Languages and has been responsible for the whole English Preparatory Program, Departmental English Courses and Second Foreign Languages.

Apart from his family and 9 year old son among his interests are testing the four basic language skills and language systems, language testing for various purposes, performance assessment, reliability and validity of languages tests, item response theory, latent growth curve modeling and statistics.   

Didem Mutçalıoğlu

Didem Mutçalıoğlu received her undergraduate degree from the Department of English Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) and completed her Master’s degree in the same field from Marmara University.  She has been an English language instructor for the past twenty years of which the last sixteen have been with the English Language Programs at İstanbul Bilgi University.  During her tenure at İstanbul Bilgi University she has assumed the different managerial positions within the English Language Program.  She is currently the Director of the English Language Programs; a position she has held since 2009.  She successfully managed the CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) accreditation process, which resulted in the awarding of 5-year accreditation to the program.  In addition to these responsibilities, she has been directing İstanbul Bilgi University’s institutional accreditation efforts with WSCUC (WASC Senior College and University Commission) since 2015.  As part of these efforts, she is the Director responsible for Teaching, Learning and Quality Assurance.  Parallel to her efforts in institutional accreditation, she was accepted to the “WSCUC Assessment Leadership Academy” and completed a one-year program on outcome assessment practices in 2017.  She participated in the CEA site reviewer training in the same year. She is one of the foundation members and currently the chair of DEDAK (Dil Eğitimi Değerlendirme ve Akreditasyon Derneği), and is working towards her doctorate in higher education at the University of Liverpool.
